Apollo Wind Spinner — Jeff Koons

Above the DESTE Slaughterhouse, a giant mirror-polished sun turns slowly in the wind — the Apollo Wind Spinner, created by Jeff Koons for his 2022 exhibition Apollo on Hydra. Some nine metres across, its reflective face greets ships as they enter the port and welcomes visitors walking the coastal path toward Mandraki.
When the exhibition ended, the islanders of Hydra voted unanimously to keep it — so Koons's sun now shines permanently over the island: a piece of world-class contemporary art you can see for free, any day, from the water or the shore.
