About Hydra2Go

Christos Smyrniotis

Γεια σας — I'm Christos.

I've lived on Hydra since 2010. By trade I'm a contractor and property manager, looking after homes across the island — which means I spend my days in Hydra's lanes, on its rooftops and at its harbour, in every season and every weather.

Back in 2007, my wife Pavlina — whose family roots are on Hydra — opened a small Facebook group for people who love this island. It grew — and grew — into one of the most alive online communities in Greece: more than 26,000 Hydriots, returning friends and first-time dreamers, sharing photos, questions, news and a little bit of longing every single day.

Out of that community came a simple idea. With so many of us — some who've known Hydra for fifty years, some planning a first visit — we needed one place to turn to: a calm, central point that answers what's here and what's happening on the island. Where are the beaches? Which taverna is open in winter? When is the Miaoulia? What's showing at the Gardenia tonight? The same warm questions come up again and again in the group — hydra2go is where the answers can finally live.

This site isn't a business directory built in some faraway office. It's the island's own guide, kept by someone who calls it home — and by the community that has loved it, out loud, since 2007.

Welcome to Hydra. Take your time. There are no wheels here to rush you.
