Kostas Grammatopoulos — “Traces of the Aegean”

The Historical Archives – Museum of Hydra presents “Traces of the Aegean”, a landmark tribute to Kostas Grammatopoulos (1916–2003) — one of the last great artists of the Greek “Generation of the '30s”, who redefined modern Greek engraving, giving it painterly autonomy and colour.
He illustrated the historic first-grade primers (Αλφαβητάρια), won international distinctions, and created the current National Emblem of the Hellenic Republic. The show centres on his monumental “Aegean” series, in which Hydra — a lifelong creative refuge — appears again and again: a rare chance to see the works “return” to the place that inspired them.
Opening: 5 September 2026, 19:00 · On view: 5 September – 31 October 2026 · Where: Historical Archives – Museum of Hydra.
At the opening reception, the new book by Stathis Kormentzas — “The Sea Within Me”, illustrated with works by Kostas Grammatopoulos — will also be presented.
Curated by Eleanna Grammatopoulou.
