Hydra to get a new helipad — contract signed

Hydra is getting a new helipad. On 19 August 2026, the Regional Governor of Attica, Nikos Hardalias, signed the programmatic contract for its construction — together with an access road — alongside the Mayor of Hydra, Giorgos Koukoudakis, and Nun Pelagia, caretaker of the Church of Agios Nikolaos.

The project has a total budget of €1 million (plus VAT), funded from the Region of Attica's own resources up to €829,100, with the Municipality of Hydra as beneficiary. It will be built at the «Aloni» site, about 5 km from Hydra town, covering roughly 1,800 m², with all the facilities for the safe landing and take-off of helicopters.

Its main purpose is emergency response and faster patient transport (medical evacuations) — a critical piece of infrastructure for a car-free island. The land lies within a ~160-acre property of the Holy Monastery of Agios Nikolaos, granted to the Municipality of Hydra for 30 years.
