A month on Hydra: the art of lingering

What happens when you stop visiting a place and simply stay? Hospitality consultant and writer Tracy Georgiou is finding out right now: she has taken herself to Hydra for a whole month — not, as she puts it, for a vacation or an escape, but to linger.

In the latest letter of her Substack, she writes from a room above the sea at Mandraki, working between swims, taking lunch at a family taverna in a small street off the port, and asking the question more and more visitors bring to the island: what would it feel like to live and work here for a while? Hydra, with no cars and no hurry, might be the best place in Greece to look for the answer.

Read her letter — and the rest of her month on the island — on her Substack. For your own slow days here, start with our guide to the island's beaches and tavernas.
