Καλά Πηγάδια

Uphill from the port, on the old high road, the twin wells known as Kala Pigadia — "the Good Wells" — were for two centuries the town's main source of fresh water, and the place where households sent for it daily. The square around them, ringed by captains' houses, remains one of the most atmospheric corners of old Hydra.

It makes a natural pause on the walk up toward the island's interior and the monasteries — quiet, shaded, and largely unchanged since the eighteen hundreds.
